Jennifer Hudson recently emerged as the spokeswoman for Weight Watchers not to announce how many pounds she intends to take off but rather unveiling an already slammin’ new bod! Weight Watchers took a slightly different approach than its competitor Jenny Craig. Instead of displaying the celebrity before, during, and after their weight loss journey, Weight Watchers simply presented the celebrity success story of a known voluptuous star now thin. This spiel is quite innovative.
Of course, looking at Jennifer’s new svelte figure was a bit surprising given it wasn’t a public crusade of hers. Obviously she went to work on her new body post pregnancy. I was so used to seeing her full figure that I hardly noticed she was coming down in pounds. I was taken aback simply because she looked soooo good! Yeah ok…I came down with a case of the jealous rage and a moment of feeling fat and abandoned. She’s got her fine fiancé baby daddy, a precious bundle of joy, and a hot career in the wake of surviving a family tragedy. Although she’s earned the right to do whatever she wants, I still couldn’t help but wonder have we lost one of our heroes, if Jennifer has caved to the Hollywood pressure and gone to the other side?
What about, “I’m big, beautiful, and loving myself as my wonderful talent transcends any stereotype or barrier that may be put before me!” Mind you, Jennifer never said this but that is the full-figured mantra. Jennifer is now a skinny girl – how can I look to her for inspiration unless I want to lose weight? I still have Mo’Nique who is also currently slimming herself down in the name of health as her husband Sidney made it clear that he wants her around for the future. But I just can’t be mad at her, Mo’s been holdin’ it down for Phat and fabuliscious women forever!
I guess if I want to be successful, mainstream society says slimming down is key but then I look at Queen Latifah who took on the Jenny Craig challenge and wrote her own rules. She declared she was going to get to a size healthy because that was the only thing she wanted to be. She’s still thick n’ fab and has managed to carve out a groundbreaking career as a curvy girl. She’s got one of the most lucrative Cover Girl contracts with her own line. She continues to work musically whether it be as a songstress or a Hip Hop maverick. And as an actress Hollywood not only continues to beckon her (remember Black Reign, the Flava Unit, Set it Off, and Living Single?) but has laid out the red carpet for her as a lead actress with top billing, she’s currently starring in Just Wright with Common and Paula Patton, released May 7th. I mean after her Oscar nod and Golden-globe win, she’s not just doing the doggone thing, she’s galvanizing the damn thing on all fronts.
The Queen is large – larger than life constantly redefining how curvy girls can write their own ticket with tenacity, vision, and perseverance. And Mo’Nique and Ms. Hudson only prove that the curvyliscious vibe can come in all sizes and inspire in all arenas. If doing what’s best for you makes you feel right and propels you to soar in life, who can be mad at that?
I’m going to follow their lead and own my destiny, put on my wings, and start flying. Bravo ladies, keep inspiring us to be wild n’ succulent fluffyliscious ladies.
